We’re half-way through January, and we’ve already forgotten about the Christmas festivities. With a fresh new year comes new trends, quirky styles, and, of course, fashion inspo. With emerging styles, it’s got us procrastinating about the fashion trends forecast for 2023 and which ones we need to add to our wardrobes ASAP.

Throwing it back to September last year, we’ve compiled a list of the best upcoming trends for 2023. Expect bigger, bolder, glitzier, and grungier with the same angsty spirit as the 1990s.

To discover the 5 top trending styles filling our feeds and dominating the streets, keep scrolling.

Denim Delights
While everyone associates denim with their favourite pair of jeans, your denim wardrobe will be dominant in more ways than one. The versatile fabric dominated the runways, and we were shown how to wear and incorporate denim into dresses, jackets, skirts, bags, and shoes. Our new season collection will see a mixture of top-handle bags, boots, and slip-on mules. All hail denim, the trend of 2023.

Balletcore
The 'Noughties’ trend is back, and we’re wearing our ballet flats all over again. Since returning to the runway in 2022, ballet flats have become part of our daily wardrobe rotation. The modern ballet flat can be worn with almost anything that provides comfort and style both day and night. In short, they’ve returned and are even cooler than before.

Grunge 2.0
When grunge from the '90s stepped out in all black everything, shows brought sexy back. The same Y2K aesthetic brought angsty spirit in the form of frayed hems, distressed knitwear, structured leather, and a whole lot of attitude.

Even bigger bags
From pocket-sized micro bags to shrunken clutches that don’t quite fit all your essentials, praise the trend-setters: being practical is back, and oversized bags are in! Larger than life totes, shoppers, and messenger bags can once again take centre stage in your wardrobe. Count on the XL tote to carry everything you need (and more).

Buckle Up
Strap yourself into this year’s fast-emerging trend. Whether you're living on the wedge and going sky-high in Versace platform’s or adding sparkle to your style in an embellished Benedetta shoulder bag, it’s all about the buckle detail this season.
